COURTYARD HOUSE
Designed by Minneapolis-based Lazor/Office, the Palm Springs Courtyard House is a contemporary desert residence shaped by the relationship between architecture, landscape, and climate. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains, the project employs a series of carefully positioned walls, courtyards, and shaded outdoor spaces to frame views while creating moments of privacy and retreat.
Rather than imposing itself on the site, the architecture seeks harmony with its surroundings, embracing the openness, light, and stillness that define the desert environment. Through a restrained palette of materials and a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces, the house establishes a quiet yet powerful sense of place.

“The project challenged us to communicate architecture through restraint - allowing light, materials, and the surrounding desert landscape to become the primary storytellers. ”

picturing serenity
Our visual work focused on translating this atmosphere into imagery. Moving away from dense urban settings and iconic skylines, the challenge here was to communicate serenity through composition, materiality, and the subtle interplay of light and shadow.
Particular attention was given to the relationship between the architecture and its landscape, capturing the way the home frames distant mountain views while nurturing intimate desert gardens within its walls. The resulting images aim to convey not only the design itself, but the calm and contemplative experience of inhabiting it.
